72 The Way, in search of H or X pipe (exhaust) Dyno?
! Help Ive got a 72 Camino, working on the restoration process. I have a 350 stroked (383) SBC, stock heads, intake Edelbrock performer, and 600 CFM carb. I have a set of Doug shortie headers installed now need know what to do with the rest of the exhaust? Read other messages, many people have asked about the benefits and use of an H or an X in the dual exhaust pipes. My plans are to run dual, the back with 40-series flowmasters on 2.5 inch pipe. Are there dyno testing that shows the actual achievements of the pipe HX or pipes? Im not sure if the X-pipe complying, but the H-pipe sounds more logical ... Please, if your answer implies "that will end more than substance" save it for the next guy - I want results! This stroker will give me about 400 ft lbs of torque when I'm done - and around 300-350 horses. What profits me realize the H-pipe?
I have a folder full of this test dyno and track testing exhaust at home, but now I'm out of town .. I can say the avg. gain for X tube is 20-30 lb-ft of torque at 2000-4500 rpm range, and gain of 10 hp or less 5.000-6.500 rpm The tube H is half that at best. Pick Your muffler gives a good dose of energy as well. Flowmaster are not the best already. In every test I've done in the aftermarket mufflers flowmaster has been in or near the bottom. Dynomax ultra flo The line has been at the top with a good gain in the 12-15 HP flowmaster (this is all for the silence of the street, not bullets, 1 cameras etc)
