Surfing Surfboard Tri

Surfing in Del Mar
Would this be a good sized surfboard for me?
I'm 6'5 ", 195 pounds and very athletic. I've sailed one once before and got up immediately and plan to record lots of time in water. So I was wondering if Big Guy Tri table would suit me well. Here are the specs: * 6'10 "x 19 7 / 8" x 2 2 / 3 "* Hand shaped polyurethane foam blank Australia * Fiberglass 2 x 4 oz canvas fabric upper & 4 oz at the bottom * Removable Superfin thruster Tri-Fin set up as a set of 3 fins (FCS Compatible) I live in the Northeast that if there is any difference. He was also thinking about a funboard but since surfing a lot I thought it would only buy a shortboard right off the bat, but since I'm taller than most regularshortboards believes it would be my best bet. Thanks in advance for your help!
Welcome to surfing. This question has been asked enough times before, but in reality there is only one true answer. The classes are the only sensible way to start surfing, be it a professional instructor, or browse by relatives or friends who are experienced surfers. After having "sailed" once before it is nice but really does not count. There are way too many dangerous people in the water now, they think can navigate. Please do not join their ranks. The VERY LAST THING the rest of us surfers just want to make foolish people in online counseling, and go to the beach, grab a surfboard and come and go in our way. Most people start getting better on long boards, but I've seen lots of surfers start begin with a short board and master it in no time. Only tends to be more difficult. The conclusion is that there are no rules as to what kind of surfboard to learn. Certainly, a longboard is usually easier to use. Most professional instructors will rent you a board to learn. Beginners should not even think about buying a board until you master the basics, and decide what you really want to keep browsing. This question is very much in YA Surf, and impossible to answer accurately on-line. Although I am sure you will get lots of "advice" the real answer is best to go to a good local surf shop and discuss your skill level, their size and local conditions of touch with the people there. They will give much better information than anyone here in cyberspace. When you're finally ready, really should consider buying a decent plate and hits to avoid, and boards made in sweatshops in China, unless all you can only afford. And Remember, there always used tables for sale in all surf shops. After 42 years of surfing, I get my surfboard advice at good local shops buy in where to surf. And I know there are many good guys who want to share information with you online. But do not take the advice of youth who know even less than you surf on a surfboard is a great investment. At 17, should be mature enough to read through the BS that many people pull you online. Either, On-line, which gives specific advice on what someone on board size should buy is silly. Anyone who takes this advice is luckier foolish.Good!
