What size / shape of surfboard is best for me?
I am 27. 225 lbs. 6'1''and a good athlete. I looking for a table used on craigslist. I snowboarded, wakeboarding and skated all my life and just moved to southern VA. I'm probably going to navigate between Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks. I think you should be able to pick up pretty fast in the surf. I plan on taking a lesson or two. Prefer not to buy a beginner board just to buy another in a year. I'm not super aggressive riding. I just want to go riding and enjoy the ocean. Spare me the card does not buy craigslist posts please.
Well, their thinking in the good sense to speak of "a few lessons." The other sports are nothing like surfing, as well as the balancing factor. In others, not have to paddle through the surf, paddle and take a walk. The lessons are the best way to start. The lessons may come from a professional instructor, or browse members family or friends to experience surfing. The last thing we want is for experienced surfers to the inexperienced people can take a table, take to the waves and get in our way. Lessons to shorten the learning curve significantly. I know I do not want to hear the "Do not buy on Craigslist" in line. But I'm not going to lie to you, or give him "Dr. Feel Good" councils. The fact is that beginners should take advantage of rent boards and wetsuits while taking lessons. If it turns out you do not like surfing, you have not wasted a lot of money on equipment you will not use. When ready to buy, do not waste your time online, go to a good local surf shop to discuss your size (weight is imported, the height is not), ability level and local wave conditions. After of over 43 years of surfing, I get my surfboard advice of buying a good local shops in surf spots i. VAB and the Outer Banks is a major surfing destination. There are tons of great shops there that sell at a reasonable price using tables. Look at this way. I would have an idea of what the Board of snow to buy from Craigslist. What makes you think you know what to buy surfboard? Almost all instructors to start with a longboard. It is too difficult for most people to learn to surf in a short board. Most quickly get discouraged and just quit. Now, over the years, I have seen some young surfers start on the boards short and master over time. But it is common sense to learn on a longboard. However, there are no rules on what is learned on. It's your money and your time, however, the use of your choice. Anyone who takes this advice is more absurd. Let's trade places again. Why should I believe a guy I never met before she'll say, online, What is the snow board right for me to buy? And I know there are many good guys who want to share information with you online. But do not take the advice of young people, who know even less than you about surfing, surfboard is a great investment. I would expect at your age can be read through the BS that lots of people pull you online. You do not know enough about anywhere near a surfboard to buy one from a website online without having to be disappointed. Do not waste your time online, go directly to the source, shop and local levels. Years ago, I made a lot of surfing in VAB and the Outer Banks are surfing destinations, especially in autumn and winter. But it is the "low season". So the experience will be more difficult to achieve. Also, if you have no experience with the sea in winter, you'd be smart to keep out of your surfing up, Spring. Good luck.
