Wanting to try kite surfing or wind surfing. What is more fun, cheaper, safer?
I live in Puerto Rico where we have days Beach beautiful and impressive of the wind, always crowded beaches and never ending heat. I'm an architecture student who want to try a new sport. I have some friends already kite surfing, but I am not sure if I want to do. I am always struck with the windsurfing, but all that I asked told me to try kite surfing instead. Thank you!
Kitesurfing Kitesurfing is the new kid on the block and has a bit of a radical image. The development team is fast, due to the fact that sport is so young. Kites are expensive, the boards are inexpensive. . This is an "always on" sport ..... resting in water is diffiult. It is generally accepted that the learning curve is faster than windsurfing. Requires lighter winds of windsurfing, but still requires a minimum threshold (10 mph?) To fun. In lighter winds, the fundamental emotion is speed. When the wind picks up to a certain threhsold (15 mph?) Jumps and circuits come into play. The maximum 25 mph wind kitesurfing threshold average. The jumps are higher than windsurfing, but are much slower. More kite can jump and loop compared to windsurf. Not all beaches are suitable for kiteboarding due to the large amount of space needed for launch. Kitesurfing at sea or Cross-off is dangerous winds, usually not recommended. Computer Configuration requires large amounts of space and takes more than windsurfing. The equipment can be transported with relative ease. Fun for wave riding, sailing in waves, but not true. There seems to be a relatively high number of accidents compared to windsurfing, freak gusts mainly to bring the pilot into a wall, road, etc. Windsurfing Windsurfing is a sport set, 30 + years old. Development is still ongoing, but the changes are marginal to surf (widestyle / Development freestyle may be the exception?). A fair breeze needed to navigate in, but that developments in the freestyle and the formula has meant teams windsurfing wind that is now possible. There is a difficult learning curve compared to kitesurfing. Boards are expensive, the candles are less expensive. There is a buoyant market 2nd hand. Rigging is simple and quick, although transport of the equipment is more difficult than kitesurfing. The launch is possible in the restricted area of beach. Minimum threshold Wind 15 mph. + 20 mph to 30-35 mph loop jump and ceiling average windsurfer. Salto and loops are very fast compared to kitesurfing. Sailing in the waves is the final emotion. In short, both sports have advantages and disadvantages, but ultimately, both offer high-adrenaline thrill, and can co-exist happily. Kitesurfing in general, requires less wind than windsurfing, but has a low threshold of strong wind. I have always maintained that you can not really "mount" a wave on a kite. Yes - you can be dragged in front of the wave, but when the dynamic state of the wave has the full weight of the board can probably not be achieved when the kite is pulling over and typically have less volume kiteboard a skimboard? So ultimately, offers windsurfing waveriding truth where you can not kitesurf. Kite offset lighter winds.
