Skateboard wheels make much difference?
I just got a new skateboard that comes complete with everything (trucks, bearings, wheels, etc.). All quality is quite good, with the exception of the wheels. So my question is: Are the wheels make a big difference when traveling or do a trick? Forgot to add: the wheels are Yellow Jacket with SL ABEC 3 bearings.
Wheels are important ... The hardness of a wheel that can make a difference, a very tough conference, 97a-101a is so hard do not deform much when you play. Do not handle, and wheels in the soft 85a, 95a, hardness testers. So a hard wheel is good for slides, blunts, tailslide, etc. .. They help to slide along the surface in its struggle against the shaft. soft wheels give a smoother ride and grip a bit better for my raw asphault around my neighborhood. My 87th cruise in my board are the quickest way to my 98th street roller skating. Because they are so hard to not give enough in the deformations in the concrete below. If I was on the smooth concrete that once was ... a wheel would be even harder faster. However, adherence and control may be lost then also, so it's a balance. If you skate street, go hard, if the bomb hills on a longboard, go soft. If skate pools, somewhere in between. The shape of the wheel of things too ... wheels that have flat faces high blocking aid in lanes skinny / survival, but that is a little harder to pop / output. A more tapered twisted making aid-to-switch 5.0 's easier. As well as slides and blunts. Other tips: Stick to white wheels, the molecules that add color to the polymer softer and weaker. If you want to hold the conference as planned, stick to white. Do not fall into the wheels dual durometer (cylinders of metal or hard plastic). They tend to separate from the formation of air bubbles around the core during the injection mold process, do not ride as smooth with no full deflection. General you spend more money than necessary. Wheel size, not the obvious large = faster, is a matter of personal preference. Smaller wheels help cover gasket with a faster and more central CG of mass, greater stability. However, a safe bet is 50-52mm if you are looking to ride everything. Bearings ABEC is rated from 1-10. 10 is best. BUT! You do not 'need 10, if you were building the next shuttle, it would take 10's. Skateboarding is hard does not require that kind of precision (and no, 10 no faster than the spinning of 3). Neither is going to ceramics worth the money because it is a skate, not NASCAR. Red Bones, Shorty's Black Panthers ... are reasonably priced and plain good that they have held up well to my 28 years of grinding.
