Five great places to ski in the U.S.

Skiing Most of us associate with summer fun water - warm sun and beaches picnics - so it may come as a surprise that water ski was born in Minnesota in 1922 when Ralph Samuelson used two boards and a clothesline to ski through Lake Pepin. Samuelson has been accredited by the American Water Ski Association as the first water skier, and the first to jump a ramp and ski slalom and the first to give a water ski show, too.

As Samuelson, an avid amateur water ski almost any time, anywhere there is an opportunity, even when winter temperatures and cold water are an impediment to most people.
